Besides providing basic knowledge, the Kendra at its complexes in Sector 35 Chandigarh and Sector 71 of the adjoining township of Mohali has been imparting training in classical music (vocal and instrumental), dance and the fine art of painting to its students under the expert guidance of eminent gurus of these fields. The training programme is carefully structured and is comprehensive. Spreading over a period of 7 years (besides 2 years of Prarambhik course), the various courses can take a student through an elementary foundation to the highest level of professional training.
It is in recognition of this mission of the Kendra that the Union Ministry of Culture provide grants regularly towards the payment of the salaries of the teaching staff as per its approved scheme of financial assistance since 1997-98.
The Kendra also stands approved as a centre of learning and excellence for Kathak dance by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) who sends foreign students and researchers to the Kendra under ICCR scholarship for learning dance.
The students learning at the Kendra are also provided platform to perform and expose their talent.
