  Sangeet Churamani
 
1
The title of Sangeet Churamani shall be awarded on the basis of a thesis submitted to the Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, and in accordance with the provision of the ordinance.

Eligibility for Registration
Every candidate for Sangeet Churamani shall be registered as a research student of the Pracheen Kala Kendra, if he/she has passed
The final examination of the Sangeet Bhaskar in the first or second division or an examination recognised by the Kendra as equivalent thereto, provided that in the case of a candidate who does not possess a Master's Degree in Music/Dance but possesses a Master's Degree in such other subject as may be approved by the Kendra and the subject of research is one which contributes to the advancement of learning in the field of music may also be registered.
Provided that a period of at least two years has elapsed since the date on which a candidate has passed the final examination of the Sangeet/Nritya Bhaskar or its equivalent examination.
 
 
Procedure
The registration is to be done in accordance with the following procedure:
Application for registration for the Sangeet Churamani be submitted to the Kendra ordinarily by the 31st July or 31st December, every year, in the prescribed form.
The application for registration shall state the proposed subject and the supervisor under whom research is proposed to be prosecuted. If the subject of research is such that two supervisor are necessary, the candidate may purpose accordingly, justifying the need of two such joint supervisors.
The application form shall be accompanied with four copies of a type-written synopsis of the proposed subject of research, with a registration fee prescribed by the Kendra from time to time.
When an application for Registration is finally accepted by the Kendra, a comunication to this effect shall be sent by the Registrar to the concerned candidate, and the name shall be entered in the register of names of students for the Sangeet Churamani of the Kendra.

Six Monthly Report
The candidate registered for the Sangeet Churamani shall submit to the Kendra a six-monthly report of the work done during the said period, which shall be placed before the General Committee of research. If the committee is not satisfied with the progress of the researcher he/she may with or without notice be removed from the roll of research student registered for the Sangeet Churamani of the Kendra. The candidate shall also pay a fee prescribed by the Kendra for every six months for retention of his/her name on the register of research students which shall be payable from the date when registrations has been effected.

Minimum Period of Research
Except as otherwise provided be this ordinance, every candidate for Sangeet Churamani shall prosecute research for at least two years under a supervisor approved by Pracheen Kala Kendra, Candigarh. The period of two years shall be counted from the date the Registration has been effected by the Kendra.
   
5 Every candidate shall submit his thesis within a period of three years
from the date of his/her registration. As a special case, the Kendra may
extend the period further by another two years, the extension being sanctioned for not more than one year at a time. Provided that application for extension of the period of the research beyond a total period of five years may be sanctioned by Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, if the Registrar is satisfied that a substantial part of the work has already been done and that the work shall be completed by the end of such further period as may be specified to him/her by the Supervisor in this behalf.

Modification of Subject
The General Committee of research may after considering the recommendation of the Supervisor recommending to the Kendra for permitting a candidate to modify the subject of his/her thesis or substitute another, within a period of six months ordinarily but in no case shall such permission be given after a period of one year from the date on which the Kendra has approved the subject for Registration.

Language of thesis
All thesis shall be written in English/Hindi/Bengali or in such other Indian language as may be approved by the Kendra in this behalf.

The candidate shall ordinarily inform the Kendra through his/her Supervisor at least six months before the date by which the candidate expects to submit his/her thesis of examination to the Kendra.

Submission of Thesis
No Thesis shall be accepted for examination unless:
It has been submitted within the period prescribed for prosecution of research by this Ordinance
It has accompanied with a certificate from the Supervisor that the Thesis has been duly completed and is upto the standard both in respect of its contents and is literary presentation for being referred to the examiners and a period of at least two ears has elapsed from the date of registration of the candidate as a student of Churamani.
   
10 The candidate shall submit four copies of the Thesis typewritten or printed, along with three copies of its summary in about 300 words, unless for special reasons the General Committee if Research decides otherwise in any given case.
 
11 The candidate shall indicate generally in a preface of his Thesis and specifically in notes, the source from which his information has been taken, the extent to which he availed himself of work done by others, and the portions of Thesis which he/she claims as original.
   
12 The candidate may submit, as subsidiary matter in support of his/her Thesis, any contributions, the advancement of study of the subject of his/her Thesis which he/she has previously published independently or jointly with others.

Declaration with Thesis
While submitting his/her Thesis, the candidate shall be required to submit a signed declaration that the Thesis submitted by him/her is not substantially the same as one which has already been submitted for a degree or for any other academic qualification to any other University or Examining body in India or any other country.

Appointment of Examiners
The Thesis and any other contribution or contributions to the study of the subject of his/her Thesis which the candidate may submit, shall be referred to two examiners who shall be appointed by the Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, on the recommendations of the General Committee of Research.
   
15 The General Committee of Research shall recommend for each Thesis at least five persons from among whom examiners may be selected by Pracheen Kala Kendra.

Viva-Voce
Every candidate for the Sangeet Churamani shall be required to present himself or herself at a specified time and place for Viva-Voce test. The test shall be conducted by the examiners appointed for examination of the Thesis.
   
17 If a candidate fails in the Viva-Voce test, the examiners shall give him/her an opportunity to appear for another viva-voce test. If the candidate fails in the second viva-voce test, his/her Thesis shall be rejected.

Acceptance of Thesis
On the approval and recommendations of the examiners, the Kendra shall declare the Thesis to have been approved for the Sangeet Churamani.

Rejection of Thesis
If both the examiners report that the Thesis be not accepted for the Sangeet Churamani, the Kendra on the recommendation of appropriate authority, shall reject the Thesis.

Revision of Thesis
If one or both the examiners so recommended, the Kendra may permit a candidate to submit his/her thesis again in revised form within a period of not less than 9 months and not more than 18 months, from the date on which he/she receives the communication, conveying the decision of the Kendra in this behalf. As a special case, the period of 18 months may, on the recommendation of the supervisor, be extended by not more than six months by the Kendra.

No Second Revision
No candidate shall be permitted to submit a thesis in a revised form more than once. The revised Thesis shall be referred to the same examiners who had examined the Thesis earlier.

Requirement of Publication
No Thesis approved by the Kendra for the award of Sangeet Churamani title shall be published without prior permission from the authorities of Pracheen Kala Kendra.

Revision of Thesis
If a Thesis accepted by the Kendra for confirment of the Sangeet Churamani is published by or on behalf of candidates, it shall be prominently stated in the published thesis that it was so accepted by the Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.

Number of Pages
The Thesis shall not be less than two hundred pages.

Academic Qualification
No such candidate for the Sangeet Churamani shall be registered as Research student of the Kendra who has not has B.A. examination or its equivalent prior to seeking admission to the Sangeet Churamani examination, apart from passing the Bhaskar final or its equivalent examination.

Fee
Every candidate intends to appear in the Sangeet Churamani examination of Pracheen Kala Kendra shall be required to pay the prescribed fee as fixed by the Kendra from time to time.
