The Kendra adopted a name for itself after the immortal Bhaskarbua Bakhle, a great luminary who put up the flame of classical music in the late nineteenth century. Gayanacharya Bhaskar Rao Bakhle was born in 1869 and became one with the Divine at the end of his journey to immortality in 1922.
He led an austere life and dedicated all his energy and effort to the promotion of art and culture. There were many names but the Kendra gave unto themselves the stamp of Bhaskarbua Bakhle who was a tapasvi-musician.
There is no parallel to Bhaskar Rao of revered memory. He strove to propagate Indian classical music in India abroad with great zeal. He said that man could reach salvation through music. His gurus like Vishnu Pingle, Annasahib Kirloskar and Bande Ali Khan seconded his thought. Bal Gandharva, Master Krishna Rao, Dilip Chandra Vedi and such other luminaries made his life dedicated to music by being in a team-mate role.
To perpetuate the memory of this musical genius, Pracheen Kala Kendra, since 1969, has been uninterruptedly organising the prestigious All-India Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan which has provided a platform to almost all the leading luminaries in the field of Classical Music and Dance from time to time.
